About Toon Tone
Toon Tone is a daily browser color memory game. Each round shows you an original toon-style character, hides a target color, and asks you to recreate it using hue, saturation, and brightness sliders. Five rounds, one shared puzzle, scored on Delta-E proximity, reset at UTC midnight.
Why an original-character version
Color memory games are quick to learn and easy to share. But most “toon tone” sites surfaced by search are typo clones or stripped reskins that lean on copyrighted cartoon, anime, game, and comic characters. That creates trademark and DMCA exposure for both the operators and the players who share their scores.
Toon Tone goes the safer route: every character on this site is an original creation in the toon-style genre. The aesthetic is the genre; the IP is ours. Animals, robots, and friendly monsters replace risky TV, game, and comic references.
How the game works
- 15 original characters across three categories — animals, robots, and friendly monsters
- HSB (hue, saturation, brightness) sliders — closer to how artists think about color than RGB
- Daily challenge with the same five rounds for everyone, reset at UTC midnight
- Practice modes: color memory, color match, and harder memory-with-delay variants
- Six palette studies and 24 single-swatch training targets across the full hue, saturation, and brightness range
- Scores stay in your browser; no server account holds your data — read how to play for scoring details
What we don't do
- No accounts. No signup, no email collection, no password reset flows.
- No ads (today). The site is currently ad-free. If we ever add ads, this section will say so before they go live.
- No protected IP. No Mickey, Pikachu, Mario, Marvel, Disney, or any other rights-holder branding — anywhere on the site.
- No AI calls.Game logic and scoring run in your browser; we don't send inputs to OpenAI, Anthropic, or any model API.
- No data sales. We use Cloudflare for hosting, GA4 and Umami for traffic counts. That's the full third-party list — Privacy Policy has the retention windows.
Tech and hosting
Toon Tone is a static Next.js site deployed on Cloudflare Workers. The daily puzzle is generated from a UTC date seed, so two players in different time zones get the exact same five rounds on the same UTC day. There is no backend database, no server-side rendering, and no API routes — the site is files served from the edge.
